ベットミドラーとジェームスカーンの名作映画「For the boys」の中の挿入歌で、二人が掛け合いで唄う、I remember you、楽しくて何回も聴きたくなる。1941年リリースのとても古い歌で、Victor Schertzinger作曲、Johnny Mercer作詞, そして、最初のリリースはJimmy Dorseyだとのこと。ナッキンコールなども歌っている古き良き名曲である。
これをどこからか引っ張り出したベットミドラーは、歌詞を二重に作り替えさせ、完全に茶化し、二人のかけ合い漫才のようにしている。
とても面白く、好きだったのだが、一つ分からなかったのが歌詞の中に出てくる Winchellの意味。さらにここは、When the angels ask.../Winchel asks... と二人が同時に歌っているので聞き取りにくい。大天使かと思いきや、それはミカエルだし、、、。
最近、歌詞をようやく見つけて、スペルがWinchellだったので検索すると、何と、ゴシップ専門の有名な新聞記者のことだった！
天使が人生のもっとも大きな喜びが何だったかを聞くのでなく、ブン屋に、被害者と加害者とを思い出せと言われた、と言うことか。毒舌家のベット・ミドラーにふさわしい茶化し方だ。
